Knowing what to do when a dental emergency happens can be the difference between saving and losing a tooth. Here are some tips for common dental emergencies:

• If you knock out a tooth, rinse it in cold whole milk put it back in the socket. If you are unable to do this, put the tooth either between your cheek and gums or in cold milk and call our office immediately. Don’t get dirt or other things in the socket. The sooner the tooth gets put back in the greater the success.
• If you crack your tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water and cover the tooth with wax, gauze, or sugarless gum. Then call our office.
• If you’ve bitten your tongue or lip, gently clean the bitten area with water and immediately apply a cold compress, then call our office.
• If you have a toothache, wash your mouth with warm water and gently remove any food caught in the tooth with dental floss, then call our office.
• If you have a loose crown or your crown fell off, cover tooth with gauze, wax, or sugarless gum and call ASAP.
